I used to be a policewoman so this was an obvious line of work to get into. It can be quite a dangerous job and you can meet some really nasty types. I suppose it's not really very surprising, but some people don't like it much if they find out you've been spying on them ... they can get pretty unpleasant. The other thing which isn't much fun is the nights of sitting in cars watching people or waiting to see what they will do. On the other hand, quite often I'm asked to try and find missing people, especially children. That's great ... it's really satisfying to be able to bring a family together again.
When people ask me why I do the job, it's quite hard to pick on one thing, but to be honest, what I really like best about it is the pay cheque at the end of the month!

For several years I worked as an accountant for a large firm, but then I was made redundant. So I decided to start my own company and now I'm really quite proud of my job and what I've managed to build up. We collect anything from £100 to thousands for clients. I think it's very unfair that this kind of work has such a bad reputation. In fact, we all have to be licensed and follow strict guidelines. The worst part about the job? Well, I've had several abusive phone calls in the office, and one individual said he would break my legs if I kept on asking him for money. But that's rare - most people know that I'm just a go-between.
What do I like most about it? ... lunch hours probably ... no, seriously, I think it's the fact that there's lots of variety. I'm certainly always busy.
